How to Get the Fin Dorsal Companion
Wait a minute, what? Fin has been duplicated! Wait, no, the left one is mine. You see, Fin Dorsal is available as a companion. And, chances are, if you've made it very far into the storyline, he can be yours, too. Here's how!
You need to complete the three quests involving Fin. You fight him once in each quest, so it's pretty clear which ones these are.
First, you'll fight him inside the tunnels of Skull Cave. Not too difficult here, and you're getting your first taste of Cutthroats, and your long journey with Fin Dorsal.
As you progress to Jonah Town, and further into Gullet, you'll begin making deals with the Frogfather. During this time, you'll run into Fin again for your second fight, which is slightly more difficult than the first.
In your third and final fight with Fin, which is fairly late into the storyline, you're preparing to recover the first piece of Marco Pollo's map. Here, he's preparing to sell it to the Armada. In this difficult fight, you'll be up against Fin, his pirates, and some Armada clockworks!
Fighting Fin can be worthwhile - just look at this new weapon I won! It has almost double the power of my previous weapon!
Now, there is a catch - you're going to need 12500 crowns! You see, after finishing the quests and equipping the badge, Fin Dorsal shows up as an available companion to purchase in the Crown Shop. If you log out and back in, you may need to unequip and reequip the badge to make him show up.
As with all companions in the Crown Shop, you'll receive him as whatever level you are at the time. I was level 51 when I purchased him, so here were his statistics.
As you can see, he's not a bad companion to begin with. He has Strong, Pirate, Armored, Blade Storm, and Repel Borders.Â
Despite his impressive appearance, and rarity at this point, he doesn't quite meet up to the standards of his competition, despite being my highest leveled companion. Here's where I put him among my ranks.
Playing around with this new companion was a lot of fun. He works just like the enemy Fin. He can get critical attacks, too, as seen here in this photo with a Sky Dragon.
As with any companion you purchase or obtain from the Crown Shop, he does not show up in a Tavern, so he cannot be promoted. However, at the end of the day, who doesn't love a tall shark with razor-sharp blades that's tried to "defeat" them three times following them around? I know that I'm sold - in beta, at least.
When the game goes live, I recommend KI sell companions for something like $5 a piece (2500 crowns). Or maybe, just maybe, it'll be a gift for beta testers. Who knows?
What do you think - is this a companion that you need?
Thanks for reading, and see you in the Spiral!
I agree that Fin makes me look a bit more intimidating - but I might have gotten him differently. All I did was complete the quest The Mooshu Falcon from an NPC in the Skull Island..uh, shopping area? However, I did auto-level, so I may be slightly off on my information.
ReplyDeleteNonetheless, Fin Dorsal has been accepted into my crew and is doing A.O.K. in Cool Ranch. Nice post!

Well I am new to pirate 101 but its fun. I`m only a level 5 and I defeated Fin once. I might try this!!!
ReplyDeletehere is some advice. be a witchdoctor! you get spells that are incredibly strong. the first one you get will kill a cutthroat in one hit. plus you get the best companion, the goat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBut you fizzled sooooooo much! I have a level 11 witchdoctor that annoys me because she fizzled so much, just like old scratch!
DeleteI AM a witch doctor. it is my first (and best) player. Please add me i am Generous Dustin.
DeleteWitchdoctors aren't based on normal attacks
Deletethere based on power abblities witch is why you gottqa play them smart.
I got Fin through the Mooshu Falcon too, but not on auto-level. And my Fin was higher leveled than myself.
ReplyDeleteI might try this but I was kinda hoping I could get fin easier.
ReplyDeleteI go fin afer compleding mooshu falcon
ReplyDeletei got fin today i am lvl 43 buccaneer and counting and kobe yojimo is the best comanian
ReplyDeletetry carcarius grimtooth!!!!!!!!! he rocks :) he is the highest witchdocter companion have fun on pirate101 peace!
DeleteSo.... technically, there are 2 ways to get fin?
ReplyDelete1) equipping best chum badge
2) auto level mooshu falcon quest
You get Fin Dorsal companion by completing a quest in scrimshaw from Blind mew, now. am i right?
ReplyDeleteAlso you can somehow unlock him in the crown shop when completing the mooshu falcon quest on auto level?
What means auto level, anyway?
What I mean by "auto-level" (or, at least, what I think I mean) is that in beta, you used to be able to automatically get to level 15 and complete all of those quests.
DeleteIt has changed a little bit since, I think all you've got to do is finish all three Fin quests. There are two in the Skull Island storyline, then one called "The MooShu Falcon." If I recall correctly, you unlock him in the Crown Shop after completing those. I also think he's cheaper now, too!
is he really worth the crowns? i must say my goat kan po is better then any other companion i have found... will fin even compare to kan po or will it crush my expectations?
ReplyDeleteHe's definitely a unique companion, but I wouldn't buy him over someone like Kan Po.
Deletein the world of skull island ( excluding skrimshaw) what is the highest level you can acheive?
ReplyDeleteYou can get to be any level, it would take a long time (you would have to fight lots of things over and over to gain experience) but you could do it...
DeleteI think fin is overrated and overpriced. People go bananas just cuz hes an enemy. Second, it is WAY too much crowns. You basiccly pay 25 bucks for a companion. That's insane!
ReplyDeleteI am NOT hating on fin, I am just giving my opinion, he is actually really good.
Thx for reading and have a nice day! :)
OK I have to admit that when I got fin he was good for the first 30 minutes but, he didn't reach my expectations of what the enemy fin is like so I stopped using him as much. And fellow kan po , there is one companion who is a double kan po
ReplyDelete.. Hoodoo Cornelius (from the hoodoo bundle). So what I would do is put Cornelius first then kan po second they work together VERY well
